Mujeres

What can be said about Mujeres that hasn't already been said? In the press or after a concert. What is left to explain about a group that, gig after gig and album after album, has carved outa reputation as one of the great names in guitar music in Spain? What words do we use for a band whose songs and almost 15 years of career transcend literall anguage; when emotions, sweat, euphoric celebration, and embracing a stranger become the ultimate expression of their music, attitude, trajectory, and honesty?

Frantic, Aquellos Ojos, Vivir Sin Ti, Un Sentimiento Importante, Tú y Yo...Mujeres' songbook is part of the emotional memory of several generations: those who, like them, returned to striped shirts and old instruments back in 2009; or a teenager who has just forever set the soundtrack to their youth with Cariño and Carolina Durante too— a scene in which they have not only integrated but have ended up elevating them to the trio composed of Yago Alcover, Pol Rodellar, and Arnau Sanz as the kings of rock and roll, melodic pop, andromantic songs at over 200 BPM.

Mujeres came to the scene in the late 2000s with a few singles and a debut self-titled album (Sones, 2009) in catchy and uncontrolled garage style, a trail in which they positioned themselves at the forefront and through which they slid with the albums 'Soft Gems' (Sones/62 TV,2012) and 'Marathon' (Canada/62TV, 2015). In the middle, the EP 'Aquellos Ojos'(Canada, 2014) would slip in, a reference in which they embraced Spanish for the first time as their vehicular language with their particular reimagining of ye-ye flavored fringe pop, a trademark they maintain to this day.

The love-filled nostalgia within the brotherhood formed by Yago, Pol, and Arnau contrasts with the bright future that has always awaited the Barcelona-based band, especially after signing with Sonido Muchacho, the label that would release the works that propelled them further: ‘Un Sentimiento Importante ' (LP, 2017), ‘Romance Romántico' (EP, 2019), ‘Siento Muerte' (LP, 2020), and the collaborative EP 'Rock y Amistad’ (2021). Once again, and just when we needed them the most, they return with new singles that preview the new era they are on the verge of, and where, of course, everyone is invited this very 2024.
